Gingerbread

Melt honey, sugar, butter and spices.

Pour onto the flour and the baking powder adding the egg.

Knead until smooth and form a ball to be put in the fridge for at least 4/5 hours.

Afterwards, roll the ball to a 1/2 cm height on a lightly floured surface and cut the shapes.

Bake at 170° for about 15 minutes.

When cool decorate them using a royal icing made with the icing sugar and half of the egg white adding silver balls , coloured decorations etc.

These American biscuits derives from the old Europe recipes, the batter is really similar to the one used in many Italian cities to prepare "mostacciali" also said "mustazzoli" or to the famous Norimberg spiced bread. It is easy to prepare them even for the children that can enjoy themselves in cutting christmas forms or the well-known shape of the "gingerbread man" deriving from the omonin story.

250 gr honey

75 gr sugar

25 gr butter

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

1 teaspoon of ginger

1 teaspoon of powdered cloves

1 teaspoon of nutmeg

450 gr flour

1/2 baking powder

1 egg + 1 egg white

100 gr icing sugar
